Administrative History

Senator George H. Winner, Jr., a Republican, was first elected to the Senate in a 2005 special election after serving in the State Assembly (1979-2004). He represented the 53rd Senate District (1975-1982) and the 59th Senate District (1983-2010), which consists of Chemung, Schuyler, Steuben, and Yates Counties and western Tompkins County. He chaired the Ethics Committee (2005-2007), the Investigations and Government Operations Committee (2007-2008), and the Legislative Committee on Rural Resources (2005-2009). He retired in 2010.

Scope and Content Note

This series consists of archival copies of the official website of Senator George H. Winner, Jr. Researchers should note that in 2009, each Senator was allotted space on the main Senate website and the official sites of individual Senators were removed from the live Web.

B2269-06: This accretion consists of an archival copy of Senator Winner's official website produced on December 26, 2006, shortly before Governor George E. Pataki (1995-2006) left office. It contains biographical information; photographs; a district map; and press releases (2006) concerning anti-crime and other legislation that Senator Winner sponsored, state funding for programs and services in the 53rd Senate District, and other matters of interest to Senator Winner's constituents. Also included are updates from Senator Winner detailing tax relief provisions in the 2006-2007 Executive Budget; identity theft and other issues; and legislation relating to the manufacturing and sale of methamphetamine, the expansion of the state DNA database, and capital punishment.

B2269-08: This accretion consists of a copy of Senator Winner's official website produced on June 13, 2008, shortly after the resignation of Governor Eliot L. Spitzer (2007-2008). It contains biographical information; photographs; a district map; and press releases (2008) concerning legislation relating to a temporary suspension of the state gasoline tax and creation of a dairy farm energy grant program, a new state economic development program, and other matters of interest to Senator Winner's constituents. Also included are a list of Senator Winner's 2008-09 legislative member items and information about the recommendations of the State Commission on Local Government Efficiency and Competitiveness, volunteer fire departments, the impact of timber theft, and other issues.
