Scope and Content Note

This series consists of correspondence, surveys, and related maps compiled by the State Comptroller's Office in the process of performing tax searches on parcels of private land proposed for purchase by the state as additions to the Adirondack Forest Preserve. A smaller quantity of records of these same types were submitted to the comptroller's office by supervisors of local tax districts for the purpose of correcting "imperfect" property descriptions, as required by Section 106 of the State Tax Law. Several maps were interfiled in the series without accompanying correspondence or explanation.

Processing Information

The records in this series were transferred to the State Archives by the Department of Taxation and Finance in 1989 and originally accessioned as part of Series B1259, State Comptroller's Office Maps of Non-resident Lands Sold for Unpaid Taxes. Further investigation in 2015 revealed that these records were compiled separately by the State Comptroller's Office and were functionally different than the maps with which they were transferred. Therefore, they were reaccessioned as separate series at that time.
