Administrative History

Chapter 27 of the Laws Passed at the Ninth Session of the State Legislature (1786) authorized the county courts of common pleas to prove wills devising real property and granted the New York State Supreme Court of Judicature exclusive power to prove and record wills devising real property located in several counties.

Scope and Content Note

This volume contains thirty-eight wills proved (determined to be valid) and recorded in the New York State Supreme Court of Judicature at Albany. Typical recorded entries include the name of the individual bringing the original will before the court to be proved and recorded, the name and residence of the testator, names and attestations of witnesses to the execution of the original will, text of the original will, and signature of the court clerk attesting to the comparison of the recorded text with the original will.
