Scope and Content Note

This series consists of receipts to the Register from parties in cases (or their solicitors) for money paid to them out of the Chancery Fund.

Each receipt contains the title of the case, the date the money was received, amount of money received, the signature of the payee, and the reason the money was paid including, if relevant, the citation and date of the court order or decree ordering payment. Most of the receipts are for payment of fees or awards in cases involving guardianships, trusteeships, incompetency or disputes over estates. A number of the receipts are from the Register himself for monies paid to him for court expenses. This series is continued by Series J5076, New York State Court of Chancery Chancery Fund Receipts and Related Records for Accounts with the Court, circa 1830-1855.
