These documents are remittiturs from the Court for the Correction of Errors to the Supreme Court of Judicature, for execution of judgement or other proceedings. The documents for a case include the writ of error returnable to the Court of Errors; a copy of the judgement roll (record of proceedings and judgement in the trial court); occasionally a bill of exceptions, or assignment of errors and joinder in error; and the record of proceedings in the Court of Errors (pleas of plaintiff in error and defendant in error, judgement of affirmance or reversal, and the order remitting the record to the Supreme Court of Judicature).

Custodial History

These records were transferred to the State Archives by the Court of Appeals in 1982 but became estranged from the original accession for some unknown reason until they were identified and accessioned as part of the 11th floor renovation and relocation project.
