Administrative History
Bonds were filed by guardians, trustees, and other agents of the court for the faithful performance of their duties.
Scope and Content Note
Register lists bonds filed with the Court of Chancery by guardians and other agents of the court. Each entry lists the year of filing; amount of the bond (in pounds or dollars); names of the parties in an adversarial case, or the name of the person who was the subject of a petition proceeding (most frequently a minor child for whom a guardian was appointed); and a sequential number (1-360). For the years 1784-1790, the name of the obligee is stated: the People of the State of New York, a court clerk, or other person. For the years 1791-1804 the obligee is understood to be the People.
Volume also contains a list of title deeds filed by order of the Court of Chancery, 1760-1804. Such deeds resulted from an equity proceeding in which the title to real property was in controversy. Each entry states the name of grantor and grantee, and the year of the conveyance. Also stated is the type of proceeding that resulted in the deed.
