Commission of Johan de Deckere as superintendent of finances
[several lines lost] see whether [ ] that we [ ] and finance in New [ Netherland ], under the supreme authority of [ the honorable lords ] director general Petrus [ Stuyvesant and ] the councilors presently there, to send another councilor there, who at the same time shall take care of the supervision of the finances. And whereas the person of Jan de Decker, who previously served the Company in New Netherland as a commies, was recommended to us for that, we, upon the good report made to us about his competence, engaged, appointed, and authorized, and hereby engage, appoint, and authorize the said Jan de Deckere as fellow councilor and superintendent of the finances there, in order to help govern all business of the Company, police, justice, as well as war at sea and on land, under the supreme authority as mentioned before; and to help maintain this in good order for the well-being and service of this chamber; to help bring good order to the protection of the lands, fortresses and places there in our name, as mentioned before; to administer both criminal and civil law and justice; and further, to do everything concerning his duties and office in accordance with the instructions of the director general and councilors and which are given along with him now, or which may be sent later, as a good and faithful councilor and superintendent of the finances [ ought to do ].
