Appeal of Hieronimus Ebbing of a judgment of the court at Wiltwyck, in the Esopus, in favor of Cornelis Barentsen Slecht
Petrus Stuyvesandt, on behalf of their honorable High Mightinesses the lords States General of the United Netherlands and the lords directors of the Chartered West India Company, chamber of Amsterdam, director general of N. Netherland, Curaçao, Bonaire, Aruba and the dependencies thereof, together with the honorable lords councilors, have summoned hereto the court messenger of the inferior court of justice in the village of Wiltwijck, greetings.[1]
Whereas Jeronimus Ebbinge has remonstrated to us by petition that he finds himself greatly injured and aggrieved by the judgment handed down by the honorable court of the village of Wiltwijck in the Esopus, dated 28 March, last past, between him and Cornelis Baerents Slecht for reasons detailed in the attached copy of the petition. For which he requests our assistance.[2]
Therefore, we order and command you to summon the aforesaid Cornelis Baerents Slecht to appear before us here in Fort Amsterdam on Thursday, being the 27th of this month, in order to respond to such demands and rejoinders which the aforesaid Jeronimus Ebbinge shall make and effect at that time, inviting also those of the aforesaid court to appear or send deputies on the appointed day, if it pleases them, in order to see the aforesaid judgment annulled or confirmed by us.
