Administrative History

The Council of Environmental Advisors was created by Chapter 140 of the Laws of 1970 to provide special counsel to the governor on environmental policy development. Specifically, the council was charged with developing guidelines for weighing the inter-relation(s) between environmental quality, economic development, and population growth; studying environmental conditions within the state; and recommending policies and legislation to improve the environment.

John L. Loeb, Jr. served as council chairman. When the council was abolished in 1975, its records were placed under the jurisdiction of the Department of Environmental Conservation.
