These files were created by the Bureau as part of its responsibility to provide legal advice on State-local relations. In connection with that responsibility, the Bureau reviewed and provided advice on a range of legal issues relating to the 1980 Olympics, including: the acquisition of facility sites; financing the Olympics; television and radio broadcasting; environmental impact; transportation; commerce; and accommodations.
A substantial amount of the records focus on the condemnation of the Ray Brook Federal Correctional Facility and its acquisition for use as an Olympic facility and on the Olympic Accommodations Control Corporation.
The New York State Archives is part of the Office of Cultural Education, an office of the New York State Education Department.
