This series was maintained by the Division of Examinations to monitor and aid municipal civil service commissions in the creation and administration of examinations. Records include examinations, announcements, and correspondence relating to the creation and administration of the examinations and sample examinations and announcements, which were loaned to municipalities. Municipalities that received sample examinations and announcements are noted.

Scope and Content Note

This series was maintained by the Division of Examinations to monitor and aid municipal civil service commissions in the creation and administration of examinations.

It contains two types of files. The first type relates to examinations actually given and contains examinations, announcements, and correspondence relating to the creation and administration of the examinations. A file may relate to all examinations given for a title or to a specific examination given for a specific municipality.

A smaller set of files contains sample examinations and announcements which were loaned to municipalities. The first file in this set contains a record (on cards) of municipalities receiving sample examinations and announcements.
