Scope and Content Note

This series consists of microfilmed copies of paper printouts of the results of the Patient Characteristics Survey which was conducted by the Office of Mental Health to obtain data on patients. The goal of this survey was to find out the characteristics of patients served by the State and local mental health system, the number of individuals eligible for major types of public funding for mental health services as well as the volume of service these individuals utilize and the characteristics of each facility/unit. Information obtained by the survey allowed linkage with other statewide data assembled by the Office of Mental Health to assist in planning, budgeting, and statistical reporting for the volumes of services provided for major target populations (children, adults, geriatric, forensic), ethnic groups, and for patients with particular mental disorders

Data for the survey was collected from state and local facility inpatient data from the ongoing information system and from facilities/units who filled out specific forms. The microfilm includes the following categories of information for each survey year: A) Background Material used to develop the survey for each year; B) Tables that were run each year; C) Special Runs for specific requests during the year and D) corrections that were made because the original filming proved poor or incomplete.
