Scope and Content Note

This series includes 19 volumes of letter orders generated by the Adjutant General's Office. The orders deal with various topics pertinent to specific New York National Guard members. Included are orders concerning assignments, such as escorts for National Guard trainees; grants of attendance to an Army Area School or to a Service School; travel orders, including authorizations to cover expenses; orders for appearances before a Federal Recognition Examining Board; and rescindment, corrections, and amendments of previously issued letter orders.

Also included are four volumes of general orders from the Department of the Army spanning the years 1947-1959. These orders cover various topics, such as: the awarding of assorted medals and honors (e.g. Legion of Merit, Silver Star, Medal of Honor), the establishment of assorted offices (e.g. Chief of Civil Affairs and Military Government, Psychological Warfare Center), and designation/re-designation lists (e.g. combat units, place names).
