Scope and Content Note

This series consists of the office files of Carlton F. Freeberg, George A. Fuller Company South Mall Project Safety Director. Records in this series fall into four major subject categories: 1) personal injuries and accidents; 2) fires, fire watch, and watchmen reports; 3) inspections; and 4) violations and recommendations.

Records in the first category include monthly surveys and analysis of lost time accidents; eye injury reports and analysis; daily safety diaries; and personal injury accident reports, photographs, civil litigation documents, workmen's compensation forms, and State Department of Labor inquiry reports.

The second category includes correspondence regarding fire hazards and fire protection; incident and personal injury reports; daily fire watch reports; and fire safety and prevention recommendations.

Inspection-related records include inspectors' daily summary reports and diaries; specific inspection reports arranged by building or structure; background research materials and memoranda regarding safe use of propane gas; and correspondence with Walsh-Corbetta joint venture regarding safety inspections, precautions, and violations.

The final category includes safety violation reports, photographs, and recommendations; State Department of Labor notices of violation of labor law and orders to comply; miscellaneous pamphlets and copies of articles on construction safety; OSHA compliance handbooks and published weekly newsletters; State Office of General Services (OGS) complaint investigation reports; and OGS safety memoranda distributed to contractors and subcontractors.
