Scope and Content Note

The series consists of signed copies of contract agreements and related material (including transmittal letters, notes, memorandums on changes to contract amounts or payments, and copies of encumbrance requests) for architectural services and supplemental agreements for extension of the period of services to be performed in connection with work on Albany's South Mall project (later Empire State Plaza). These agreements were subject to approval of the State Comptroller before payment. Most have a contract ("C") number and an unidentified "PF" number, which may relate to an internal payment fund.

Files are present for the following firms: Amman and Whitney; Carson, Lundin and Shaw; Ford and Earl; Geurtze & Riebel Architects (orientation theatre, library and museum); Harrison - Abromovitz (general site plan); Jack Lenor Larsen Inc. (legislative building - works of art); James and Meadows & Howard; Parsons, Brinckerhoff, Quade & Douglas (surveying and mapping); Mueser, Rutledge, Wentworth & Johnston (including one file re: lawsuit, funds lapse); Samal Construction Co. (legislative building - sculpture crib); Sargent, Webster, Crenshaw & Folley; South Mall Constructors (a joint venture of Grove, Shepherd, Wilson & Kruge; Psaty & Fuhrman; Hoffman & Sonner; and the Thompson Construction Corporation); and Syska & Hennessy (energy conservation).

Also present is a small amount of material pertaining to consultant services, chiefly auditing of financial records and claims work done by Peat, Marwick, Mitchell & Company.
