Administrative History

The Dental Society of the State of New York was created by act of the Legislature (L. 1868, Ch. 152) to oversee, license, and regulate the dental profession, and to provide punishment for violations of the provisions of the act. Its name was later changed to the State Board of Censors of the Dental Society of the State of New York, the Board of State Dental Examiners (L. 1895, Ch. 626), and the State Board for Dentistry (L. 1971, Ch. 987). The State Board for Dentistry is codified in Education Law, Title 8, Article 133.
