The Bureau of Private Land Services assists non-public land owners through various technical assistance and consulting programs in such areas as the forest products industry, forest management, timber harvesting, forest products demonstration, and the Saratoga Tree Nursery. The Saratoga Tree Nursery was established in 1902 to produce tree and shrub seedlings for transplant to public and private lands in New York. At the present time, it particularly grows larch, white pine, Norway spruce, white spruce, highbush cranberry, toringo crabapple, autumn olive, rugosa rose, and silky dogwood species.
