Scope and Content Note

This series consists of over 1,700 pages of typed transcripts of meetings of the Joint Legislative Committee for the Investigation of the Public Service Commissions and the Administration of the Public Service Commissions Law. These transcripts document the committee's investigation into the conduct of Edward E. McCall, Chairman of the Public Service Commission for the First District, during the period between September and November of 1915. The committee's investigation resulted in charges of misconduct in office, neglect of duty, and inefficiency against McCall. The series also contains a transcript of McCall's appearance before Governor Charles S. Whitman in response to the committee's charges. Within a matter of days of McCalls appearance in the Executive Chamber, Whitman issued an order removing him from his position on the Public Service Commission.
