Scope and Content Note

The series consists of a variety of documents, without apparent relationship, apparently deposited with the Secretary of State as the copy of record. They include records of appointments, fees, and oaths of office; descriptions of city seals and notary public signatures; receipts for company charters; and copies of various resolutions and court papers.

Items of interest include petitions of "certain Indians" to the legislature (1858), seal of the Seneca Nation (1875), and list of chiefs of the Cayuga Nation (1861); oath of office and official bond of Utica officials relating to the Chenango Canal (1887); resolutions regarding the 1868 Constitutional Convention; a copy of the 1872 U.S. Constitution; list of translations of Dutch records by "Mr. Vander Kemp" in 24 volumes; and a list of books and papers deposited by Judge Gerrit Y. Lansing.
