Scope and Content Note

This series consists of quitclaim deeds by which the Superintendent of Public Works, with the authorization of the Canal Board, released the State's title to and interest in lands appropriated for canal purposes that were determined to be no longer needed. In most cases, quitclaim deeds were used to both release the State's title to and interest in appropriated lands and to grant said real property to the party from whom it was originally appropriated (Laws of 1903, Chapter 147). In several cases, quitclaim deeds were used to release the State's title to and interest in appropriated lands and to grant said real property to a second party in exchange for other lands required for canal purposes (Laws of 1909, Chapter 13 as amended by Laws of 1910, Chapter 350).
