Scope and Content Note

These are reports by county clerks of searches they made of their records for records of the New York and Erie Railroad Company. Clerks were generally searching for records of contracts made by the company, mortgages and conveyances given by the company, and judgments made against the company. There is also a form (1840) requesting the clerk of a county Supreme Court to search for records of judgment against the company.

The reports made by the county clerk include county; date; records found, if any; and a certification by the clerk.
