Scope and Content Note
The form of abstract varies somewhat, but all contain: date and place of letting; number of section on canal; numbers and names of bidders; amounts of bids and engineer's estimate for the work. A law of 1850 stipulated the procedure for letting bids for construction or repair of canals.
