Scope and Content Note

These documents relate to official positions over which the Council of Appointment had the power of appointment. The documents include appointments; resignations; petitions of application or recommendation for appointments; and lists of officials. Some of the documents are undated. There are also some records of appointments of officials made after the council was abolished. Documents usually include such information as the name of the person applying or being recommended; the position for which he is applying; town and county; and the date of the petition.
