Scope and Content Note

This series consists of a ledger from the office of the Comptroller continuing entries relating to the repayment of the loan of 1792. The ledger was originated by the office of the Treasurer and was maintained by him until 1797 when the office of Comptroller was established and the Comptroller assumed certain functions of the treasurer, including drawing up warrants for all monies to be paid by the Treasurer, keeping the financial records of the state, investing the state's funds, and borrowing money on the credit of the state. Entries are arranged by debtor and list payments of principal and interest. Accounts are listed in pounds until about 1815 when they are entered in American currency.
