Scope and Content Note

This opinion of Richard Crowley, State Agent for War Claims, reviews New York State legislation for settlement of claims against the state arising from the War of 1812, and recommends that the state seek reimbursement from the U.S. for its own expenditures under the "Omnibus Claims Bill" passed by the U.S. Congress, March 4, 1905. The opinion also reviews possible claims by the state arising from the Civil War and War with Spain. Also included is a printed bill introduced in U.S. Congress for reimbursement of expenditures in the War of 1812, with a brief to Governor Hughes regarding the same.
