Administrative History

The records were generated pursuant to Chapter 416 of the Laws of 1900, which authorized the establishment of a State Hospital "in some suitable location in the Adirondacks for the treatment of incipient pulmonary tuberculosis." The legislation also provided for a treasurer who would be responsible for all financial business.

Scope and Content Note

This series consists of bills, correspondence, receipts, contract statements of certificates, vouchers and certificates stating that construction work was performed by individuals on the hospitals. The records in this series are concerned mainly with the E.H. Denniston Company, which contracted to construct some of the Ray Brook facility. Most of the series deals with monies paid out for labor and supplies to complete contracts annulled by the State Architect, listing sums paid and to whom.
