Scope and Content Note
This series consists of correspondence, certificates, affidavits, copies of maps of land grants, surveys of patents and a list of persons forced to quit their farms for failure to pay quit rents. There is no particular piece of legislation which authorized the creation of these records, since they deal with various aspects of quit rents and span a large time period.
Most of the records are certificates and affidavits attesting to the amount of taxes due on real estate, ownership of land patents and lots, and remissions from quit rent. There are some surveys of land patents as well as maps depicting lots and patents subject to quit rents.
