Scope and Content Note

This series consists of warrants issued by the Comptroller's Office drawing on the State Treasurer and the State Bank of Albany for the payment of various State expenses mandated by law.

Early warrants are handwritten and embossed with the stamp of the Comptroller's Office. These warrants were directed to the President, directors and company of the Bank of Albany requesting them to pay to Robert McClellan, the State Treasurer, various sums of monies. The later warrants are on printed forms and request the State Treasurer to pay monies to the various Albany banks for loans borrowed to equip and provide for the State Militia.
