Scope and Content Note

This series contains several different lists of inmates returned to the institution after violating parole, escaping, or committing a new offense.

A handwritten list dating from June 2, 1898 to March 24, 1901, and a typewritten list dating from April 1 to November 19, 1901, contain entries with the following information: date returned; inmate name; if Protestant or Catholic ("P" or "C"); whether returned from parole, returned after escape, or recommitted; and inmate number.

A softcover, handwritten volume contains lists of male inmates returned between October 1, 1902 and September 26, 1903, and lists of female inmates returned between October 27, 1902 and September 8, 1903. These lists contain entries as follows: date returned; inmate name; date originally admitted and/or length of time spent in the institution; date paroled, if applicable; number of months outside the institution; cause of return; to whom paroled; and a second parole date, if applicable.

Inserted in this volume is a two-page typewritten list of "Boys of Catholic Division Returned," dating from October 1902 to September 1903. Entries on this list contain the following information: inmate name; amount of time in institution; month and year paroled; month and year returned; and offense.

The volume also contains a very rough list of "Girls to be paroled after August 1, 1904," which was shortly before the closing date of the Female Department in September 1904. This list contains the following information: date of parole; inmate name; age; if inmate will be paroled to live at home, or with relatives, or with another family; and name of person to whom inmate will be paroled.
