These ledger books contain various accounts of the Board. They are divided into catagories such as General, Regents Office, State Library, State Museum, Academies, and Boundaries.
Among the expenses recorded are those for academic and professional exams, staff salaries, purchase of books, work on manuscripts, entomologist and botanist, paleontology, Literature Fund, and teachers' classes. There is some chronological overlap between individual volumes.
The New York State Archives is part of the Office of Cultural Education, an office of the New York State Education Department.
