Scope and Content Note

This series consists mainly of routine administrative records relating to the supervisory functions of the Associate Commissioner and Acting Assistant Commissioner for Vocational and Extension Education. Some items relate to policy and curriculum development. Included are incoming and outgoing correspondence, memoranda, reports, clippings, meeting minutes, occasional photographs, and copies of publications. Dr. Lewis A. Wilson held both positions concurrently during the period.

Among the subjects covered are: vocational rehabilitation; trade and correspondence schools; industrial, agricultural, distributive, and adult education; public service training; home economics; library extension; and the New York State Merchant Marine Academy (now the State University of New York Maritime College at Fort Schuyler). For the period of March to June 1941 these records originated in the Deputy Commissioner's office to which Dr. Wilson was appointed by the Regents. The rest of the Deputy Commissioner's Subject Files are in series B0459.
