Scope and Content Note

This series contains correspondence generated by Commission staff in the course of the field study of Upstate New York factories and stores during the Wage Investigation. The correspondence is generally between field agents and staff in the main office in New York City.

The bulk of the correspondence concerns: data card forms that have been or should be completed; classification of information recorded on data cards; instructions to agents to improve recording of information; establishments that have been or should be investigated; and payment of salaries, and expenses and delivery of supplies to agents. There is also a small amount of correspondence between the Commission and establishments and businessmen concerning plans to investigate the establishments, and upcoming public hearings on wages.
