These volumes contain annual reports of various kinds of vocational schools including general industrial, trade or technical, practical arts or homemaking, part-time or continuation, evening vocational, agriculture, mechanical arts, arts and crafts, apprentice training, occupational extension, and vocational community schools. These schools were operated by city (including New York City), village, union free, and central school districts. The format of and information in these reports changes frequently during the period. Generally, the reports give information concerning: teachers (name, license type, subjects taught, number of days and hours per day taught, salary); and pupils (number of males and females registered, aggregate and average daily attendance). For the period 1911-1914 reports also contain information concerning: buildings (number devoted to vocational training); and property values of buildings, sites, and various types of equipment.

Reports of agricultural and home-making schools/departments, 1916-1937: separate reports of agricultural and homemaking schools or departments also give students' names, first and last dates of attendance, and total number of days attendance. After 1939 separate reports of homemaking departments were discontinued, but those of agricultural departments continued through 1948.
