Administrative History

The Erie Canal Enlargement was authorized by legislation of 1835 and 1838. Earlier legislation (1819, 1821, 1826) required the Canal Commissioners to take receipts for all expenditures and to settle their accounts with the Comptroller.

The New York State Archives is part of the Office of Cultural Education, an office of the New York State Education Department.
