Scope and Content Note

The "Record of Laws" is a transcription of laws of New York for the years 1777-1802, bound pursuant to the Laws of 1819. After each chapter is a signed statement by the Secretary of State or his deputy certifying that the copy has been compared with the original and that corrections were made. The Secretary of State, pursuant to Chap. 12, Laws 1778, recorded the law until this duty was abolished by Chap. 44, Laws of 1803. The volumes contain the laws passed by each legislative session in chronological order. The first volume contains the record of laws for the legislative session of 1777, not found in the Enrolled Acts of the Legislature (Series 13036), which commence in 1778.
