Administrative History

Fines could be levied against militiamen for a variety of delinquent behaviors (Rev. Stat. 1829, Part I, Ch. X, Title VII), among them: not appearing at a regimental parade or place of rendezvous when summoned; disobeying orders of a superior officer; leaving ranks without permission; neglecting or refusing to obey any order or warrant; and appearing for duty without being properly armed and equipped. The law dictated the maximum amount of fine for each action.
