Scope and Content Note

This bound volume lists bounty claims of New York State soldiers who served during the Civil War. The volume appears to be a register of bounty claims which for the most part have yet to be paid. Furthermore, the volume may be only a portion of what was once a larger series since it only records claims of men who served in the 106th through 156th volunteer regiments.

Each entry provides the claimant's name, regiment, company, amount due, date paid, and remarks. The column recording date paid is almost always blank, which might indicate that these claims were not paid when the series was created. The remarks section often contains such notes as: "no roll furnished to Adjutant General;" "stricken from roll;" "marked absent on roll;" "discharged;" "deserted;" "supposed to be a deserter;" or "marked on roll absent without leave."
