Scope and Content Note

Microfilmed records include official minutes and hearing proceedings of the Genesee County Legislature (1854-1992) and Genesee County assessment and tax rolls (1838-1993). Minutes and hearing proceedings include budgets, departmental annual reports, resolutions, laws created, appointments, communications, and committee reports. A digest for proceedings from 1802 to 1948 is also included. Minutes and proceedings are missing for some years and may have been destroyed in a fire at the original courthouse in 1918.

Information contained in the assessment and tax rolls includes the properties in each town assessed, property owner, quantity, and value of land, amount of taxes, and certificate of authorization by the governing body of the county. In addition, the tax rolls record dog taxes and other special taxes; value of personal property; returned taxes; school taxes; listings of cemeteries, churches, and other exempt property; exemption summaries; and special district summaries. Records for the years 1802 to 1837 are missing and may have been destroyed in a fire at the courthouse in 1918.
