Administrative History

The oaths of delegates were compiled pursuant to Chapter 28 of the Laws of 1788, which required all civil or military officers to take the oaths before assuming the duties of their offices. The oaths were to be filed in the Secretary of State's office.

Scope and Content Note

This series consists of three bound volumes, containing signed oaths of delegates to the State Constitutional Conventions of 1867 (volume one), 1894 (volume two), and 1915 and 1938 (volume three). The contents of the series vary from volume to volume, but they all contain the oath sworn to by the delegates, as well as the delegates' signatures. The first volume also provides the senate district, county, and post office of the delegate, as well as his age, profession and birthplace. The third volume contains printed forms which also provide the delegate's senate district, as well as the signature of the deputy Secretary of State and the date of filing.
