Administrative History
The register was compiled pursuant to Chapter 674 of the Laws of 1898 that required the Secretary of State to determine the names of these absentees.
Scope and Content Note
This series contains the names of electors absent from their respective election districts during time of war in the actual military service of New York State, the United States Army or Navy. The volume is arranged by name of infantry unit, artillery battery, or naval vessel in which the absent electors were serving. Under each military unit are listed in alphabetical order the surname, Christian name, residence (by street and number if any), county and city or town of each absentee. Because there is no index to the volume, the name of the regiment, battery or vessel must be known to access an individual's name.
