Scope and Content Note

These are records of individuals discharged from Auburn. The prison physician was required by a law of 1889 to keep records of all incarcerated individuals discharged from the prison.

The registers list number and name; age at entrance; color; nativity; crime; when received; term; number of previous convictions; married or single; habits, weight when received; weight when discharged; date of discharge; register-book number and page; health when received (e.g. good, poor); health when discharged; and how discharged (e.g. commutation, parole). The last volume omits weight when discharged and adds M.A. (mental age); time served; and date convicted. The volumes are numbered 9, 10, and 11.
