Scope and Content Note

This volume provides summary background information on inmates.

Each entry in the register gives the following information: inmate number and name; color; date received; county where convicted; date of sentence; length of sentence; crime; previous occupation; nativity (state or country); age; habits (liquor, tobacco); education (public school, academy, college); family relations (married, single, children, home training, religion, religion of parents); former convictions; whether employed or idle when crime was committed; date of discharge; and remarks. Chaplains were appointed pursuant to a law of 1889 and earlier statutes.
