Administrative History
Laws of 1844 and 1847 authorized the agent of Clinton Prison to carry on mining and manufacturing of iron. A law of 1865 provided for an orderly end to the contract system of mining and manufacturing iron, but it did permit the prison inspectors to enter into further contracts if they saw fit. Iron manufacturing ended at Clinton Prison in 1877.
