Scope and Content Note

This series consists of a small number of unpublished reports regarding water power development on the Genesee River that were submitted to or compiled by the State Water Supply Commission. The reports include information on water power development on the Genesee River at Rochester and Mount Morris; proposed construction of storage reservoirs (including calculations, charts, and notes); data from the field and from the county clerk's office on property owners in Livingston and Wyoming counties that would benefit from proposed Genesee River improvement (with remarks on flood damages); correspondence and data collected in a Genesee River power survey; and condition and operations of mills of the International Paper Company on the Hudson, Raquette, Saranac, and Black rivers.

In addition to the reports there is a small amount of related correspondence, charts, graphs, and one map. The majority of the material deals with the development of the water supply of the Genesee River. Non-textual material includes area diagrams, flow charts, elevation tables, population growth curves, and charts of composite steam loads from power stations.

The one map present in the series is a blueprint copy showing the location of lands (with lot numbers) of property owners on the Genesee River between the Village of Mount Morris and the Lower Portage Falls. It is done to a scale of 2 inches = 1 mile and is dated November 22, 1910. It carries a note stating it was compiled from county atlas maps and specifically made to accompany the list of names submitted with one of the reports in the series.
