Scope and Content Note

This series consists of seventeen bound volumes that contain mostly duplicate copies of outgoing correspondence generated by various resident, division, and assistant engineers involved with the construction of the Barge Canal. Also include in the volumes in smaller quantities are incoming correspondence, progress reports and contracts, final estimates, yearly reports, monthly expenditures and estimates, state property inventories, monthly reports and detailed construction estimates.

The correspondence, for the most part, deals with the Supervision of work on various Barge Canal contracts. Contracts dealt with by the series include Contract Nos. 4, 18, 44, 50 and the Canaseraga Creek Improvement project. The correspondence often provides information on progress of construction; construction practices employed; the location of the canal along with dams, dikes and other structures; land appropriations; and contract alterations, specifications, and estimates. Also included are routine administrative matters such as the renting of office space, employee vacations and absences, purchase of office supplies and the submission of reports.

B0250-22: This accretion consists mostly of unbound reports, incoming and outgoing correspondence, and other administrative records generated by resident and assistant engineers. Correspondence relates to employees, material, locks, dams, surveys, and the supervision of work on various Barge Canal contracts. Also included in this accretion are several bound letter books.
