Scope and Content Note

This series consists of nine bound volumes of original minutes of meetings of the New York State Board of Railroad Commissioners. The minutes document recommendations and decisions made and actions taken by the board. Subjects dealt with by the minutes include: complaints of individuals, associations, towns and cities regarding discrimination in rates of freight; excessive passenger and freight rates; insufficient accommodations; obstructed and dangerous crossings, and violations of contracts; competition between railways and waterways; inspection of railways; investigation of accidents; promotion of safety procedures; and the formulation of new legislation to better promote and regulate railways.
