Scope and Content Note
This series consists of scrapbooks of newspaper clippings related to Erie and Barge Canal operations. The clippings were maintained and collected by J. Nelson Tubbs, a general inspector of the Erie Canal. The clippings are derived from various newspapers in the Rochester and Buffalo area. Topics covered by the clippings include but are not limited to canal finances; safety; improvements; employees; maintenance; contracts; structures; the decline of the Erie Canal; and construction of the Barge Canal.
