Scope and Content Note

This series primarily consists of a record of the school's expenditures for food, merchandise, and to a lesser extent for contracted repair work and construction materials. Also included are 1876 payroll lists for officers and teachers, and separate entries for per diem labor, salary increases, and back pay authorized by the board of trustees of the school (pp. 41-43). Another salary list, apparently pertaining to hired laborers, also appears (pp. 5-6).

Trustees appointed by the governor were authorized to manage the institution, which included appointing the officers and employees and keeping records of business and daily transactions. The series is found on pages 1-49 of an unlabelled volume which also contains balance sheets and inventory lists for the school.

Information on expenditures includes: date; name of vendor; description; quantity, and price. The amount spent for each listed expenditure appears in the farthest right column on the page.
