Scope and Content Note

This series consists of a journal of accounts, apparently for students, that was kept in accordance with Chapter 587 of the Laws of 1865. That law established the institution, required its officials to keep full and complete records, and authorized placement of indigent pupils from the counties proportionally, with each county paying an annual fee for upkeep and support. In addition, Chapter 744 of the Laws of 1867 and Chapter 463 of the Laws of 1873 provided for the institution's management and handling of county support payments for indigent students.

Each entry provides the account (student) name and number and a description and amount of the transaction. Most transactions are disbursements of funds for the purchase or repair of clothing debited to student accounts. A few are generally charged to the "Broom Shop." Transactions are listed separately for each account and then the total disbursement for that account on that date is totaled. Transactions are posted in series B0439, Ledger Accounts of Students.

The volume is labeled "Book 2" at its beginning, but the location of other volumes, if any, is unknown.

An undated scrap on the volume's pasted down back fly leaf, headed "Prices of Boom Machines, etc.," lists and totals prices for various related tools and instruments.
