Scope and Content Note

These registers identify stores selling drugs or poisons in rural areas and not employing a pharmacist or druggist. These stores were required to register with the State Board annually.

Each entry contains the following information: proprietor's name (individual or firm); street address; city or town (volume 1 only); county; registration number for each year; and remarks (e.g. "discontinued," "out of business," "destroyed by fire," "discontinued sale of prescribed drugs," name of successor or transferee).

During 1901-1910 the board issued one year temporary permits for the sale of drugs and poisons to storekeepers in communities lacking licensed pharmacists or druggists. Only one permit was issued in each village or community.
